Dr. Younghyup “Joe” Byun, DDS
Dr. Byun is a board-certified endodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, he moved to the United States as a teenager and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Abilene Christian University in Texas in 2011. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the NYU College of Dentistry in 2016, where he was recognized with multiple academic and clinical honors including the American Association of Endodontists Student Achievement Award in Endodontics. After graduation, he completed an Advanced Education Program in Endodontics, also at NYU, in 2018.
Dr. Byun’s path to dentistry was shaped early. As a child, he accompanied his father, also a dentist, on dental mission trips abroad. These are experiences that instilled in him a passion for the profession and a deep commitment to service.
After his endodontic residency, Dr. Byun joined a private endodontic practice in central Minnesota where he practiced for over three years. Drawn to teaching as well as clinical work, he also served as an adjunct clinical faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, guiding dental students in the clinical aspects of endodontics.
Dr. Byun and his wife made Charlotte home in 2021, and he is proud to serve patients throughout the greater Charlotte area. He maintains active professional affiliations with the American Association of Endodontists and the American Board of Endodontics. Outside of the office, he enjoys golfing and playing pickleball with his wife, as well as weekly Sunday soccer games. Each summer, he returns to Nicaragua on a dental mission trip continuing a tradition of service that began in his childhood alongside his father.
